Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I document my adventures in art, music, food, and whatever strikes my fancy. Hope you have a nice stay!

The Little Things – A Sketchbook Project

The Little Things – A Sketchbook Project

This is the third (nonconsecutive) year I’ve participated in The Sketchbook Project.

My title this time is The Little Things, which I see as a common thread in many of the ‘movies’ about my life, the stories I tell myself and in the lives that unfold around me.  Song lyrics, kisses, smiles, seeds, drops of water and all the little things we say that beat down or lift each other up.

I felt incredibly lucky to spend last Tuesday driving north from Charleston, West Virginia. I was born there and my feelings about the mountains run deep. Most of the trees had just sprouted the tiniest of leaves, a hint of color in contrast to the pink and white flowering trees. The sun was illuminating the intense bright green of new spring grass in a clear West Virginia blue sky with a few small white clouds. Hillside, after hillside, after hillside, of this dainty fairytale-like beauty.

This morning’s sketches are of the seeds inside a red pepper and a branch of little hot red chiles that were intended for pepper jelly last fall.  The sketchbooks must be postmarked by April 15th. The little sprouts of Black Krims under the grow lights, keep telling me it’s time to plot this year’s garden.
